Some of the more complicated effects can be created by using the motion settings.
The window looks complicated at first but once you have used it a few times it becomes quite easy. The default setting is to move the clip from left to right. Select the start point (one of the red dots in the main window) and move it wherever you want. You can then adjust the rotation and zoom sliders near the bottom and you will see the effects. You can add new points either directly on the motion path or on the timeline (the grey bar under the main window).
