Microsoft Flight Sim

Latest News (October 2000):

A new company formed via Bungie and Microsoft plans to port the MSFS sim for the Mac. There are no release dates but I suspect it will be a year away. Fly! has given MS real competition in the flight sim arena and with the advent of iMacs and the huge comeback of Apple the Mac flight sim market is enticing more developers to create mac sims.

Brief Description:

Micro$ofts Flight Sim 4 (MSFS)
This is a civil flight sim, in that there are no enemies to shoot down, and is aimed at novice pilots or flying fans. Bill Gates lets Mac users down by not developing this to the same stages as the PC version. The Mac version is pre-Power Mac and so lacks the speed and graphics of other Power Mac sims. What the sim does teach however is basic flight and naviagtion using airport nav beacons and basic flight charts which are printed in the manual. You only get a limited number of planes but they can be modified. There is a Mac control panel which creates an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) who directs you through your flight.

If you are a flight sim fan I would suggest you look at X-Plane or Fly! as MSFS for the Mac is only good for pre-Power Macs.
