Virtual Wings
Brief Description:
This is a civil sim but only has one plane, an Aerospatiale TB-20. However what it gains is an option for QD3D hardware acceleration. Such cards increase the speed of Quickdraw 3D calculations which means the scenery has impressive textures (see screenshot). Don't worry if you don't have such a card as you can still fly, but the scenery is in flat colours rather than textures. Its very nice to fly, with buttons to press to start the engine and prop and a smooth flight, with buildings and terrain to fly around. Its not as good as X-Plane, it lacks the wealth of different aircraft to fly, full nav data and all the other features found on X-Plane, but the hardware acceleration adds an extra dimension to flying.
