Spaceship

Description:

You can create a ship in a 3d program or make one yourself out of old junk ala "Blue Peter" style.

Production:

Film your background plate allowing space for the ship to appear in shot

If you are building a model then use washing up bottles and old boxes, basically anything which is strong yet light. Grey colours work best, look at sci-fi progrmmes for ideas

Digital Editing:

Create your ship in a 3d program or download a pre-built ship from the internet, add suitable textures then superimpose the 3d model over your background video either in the 3d program or in Premiere.

Computerless Editing:

To superimpose the ship over a background shot you will need a device to key out the ships background. If you do not have one of these then you will have to find a suitable background (make one if it is a space scene). The important thing is to get the perspective right.

Misc. Notes:

Both live models and 3d graphics are extensively used in feature films, for example in titanic many of the exterior shots of the ship were actual replicas filmed first, then computer backgrounds were added such as sea and sky. Live action was added also.
