What is it?

Alesis M-EQ230 Graphic Equaliser

What does it do?

It alters specific frequencies for cleaning up audio signals.

You can increae/decrease 'booming' sounds or perhaps remove a high whistle on the tape

How do you use it?

Turn the power on, connect it using the patch bay, select the IN/OUT switch to turn the EQ on or leave the sound unchanged, then move the EQ sliders up to increase the amount of a specific frequency or down to decrease it.

Thje frequency range is from 25Hz to 20KHz which gives you a good range to work with. Use the left hand side to increae/decrease the lower frequencies and the right hand side for the higher frequencies.

Misc.

You can use it to remove certain sounds from a recording, ie, find the frequency of a high whine/whistle on a recording and then decrease that frequency. Just be aware that if you have an instrument or singing which also has a similar frequency then taht will also be affected. This is why we cannot use it to create karaoke tapes by removing the singer as they aften sing in the same range as the instruments used.
