How to Set up the Studio for
Recording.
- Turn on the mixing desk (power pack underneath desk), the
amplifier and ADAT.
- Turn on the control room speakers by pressing the 'A' button
on the amplifier. the 'B' button turns on the speakers in the
studio.
- Connect a microphone cable (XLR-XLR) to the junction box and
the other end to a mic.
- Set the input level on the sound desk. The line button should
be raised for a mic signal and depressed for a line signal (ie,
keyboard or CD player). The dial should be set between 40 and 60
db for a mic input.
- Turn the channel on with the 'ON' button. A green light should
appear. Press the 'MIX' button so the mic sound signal is mixed
with any other sound sources entering the desk and move the white
slider to the '0' mark.
- Now move the yelow 'MASTER VOLUME' slider all the way to the
top of its run, then move the speaker volume dial marked 'CRM
& PHONES' to the 4 mark.
- Have your performer rehearse into the microphone so you can
check the sound level. Ideally the white slider should stay at the
'0' mark and you should alter the sound signal using the gain
dial. The sound signal is shown in the rows of lights in the top
right of the sound desk. You want the sound signal to stay in the
yellow area, red is too loud and green is too quiet.
