Panasonic Video Recorders

What is it?

3 Panasonic VCR's (2 are VHS, the top one is S-VHS)

What does it do?

They are used for editing/copying videos. One machine (slave) plays a tape whilst the other (master) copies the video onto a new tape (edit master). The S-VHS plays tapes for digitising on the G3 Mac using its S-Video connections and allows us to use S-VHS tapes.

How do you use it?

  1. locate the start points on the playback tape and the edit master tape using the jog/shuttle dial and the pause button.
  2. On the edit master whilst still in pause, press the REC button. This will put the tape into record/pause mode (ie, it is waiting to record). DO NOT PRESS THE REC BUTTON ALONE AS THIS WILL RECORD OVER THE LAST PART OF WHAT YOU HAVE JUST EDITED.
  3. On the slave VCR locate your in-point and press the RESET button (located under a flap on the right hand side). This will reset your counter numbers to zero (0.00). Rewind the tape about 5 seconds then let it play.
  4. When the slave counter gets to minus 1 second press the pause button on the master. This will synchronise the 2 VCR's so that recording will begin at the right point.

Misc.

These are domestic VCR's and not suitable for large amounts of editing due to the strains from constantly winding tapes. An industrial suite would be better but more expensive. The G3 relieves a lot of the wear and tear on the VCR's.
