Synopsis: A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away......... What can be said about a legend? Star Wars heralded a new era in sci-fi movies with new effects and styles unheard of before. The first film was created with a beginning, middle and an end, as no-one knew how it would do at the box office. When its success became apparent the other two films were created. Star Wars centers around a young man who gets caught up in a war against the evil Empire and joins up with an old sorcerer, a Princess and a maverick freighter captain (Harrison Ford) to fight the forces of darkness.

Points of Interest to Film Studies Students: The new revamped versions have utilised computer technology unheard of in 1977, and George Lucas has done what all film makers want to do, perfected their work. As a film maker myself I know how annoying it can be to want to do a particular shot, but not having the money, technology or time to do it. Bear in mind Star Wars was released in 1977. 3d computer graphics were crude at best, the spaceships were real models mechanically activated in a technique known as 'Go-Motion', this meant limitations for the animators and camera technicians. The films have been cleaned up and new sequances have been added to finalise Lucas' dream. |
