When making videos for professionally for clients one the one thing they all ask is "how much will it cost". This is where the budget comes in. The client will say we have XX amount of money to spend on this project, can you make it for this amount. So you put together a budget working of your pre-production paperwork of shooting schedules and crew requiremnets to find out how much it will cost. The SAS video did not have a budget (few college productions do), but the costs below represent a basic rate card for hiring PSC/ENG camera equipment, crew and edit suite hire. You can see that off-line editng is much cheaper than on-line, thus it is more economical to spend plenty of time getting the rough version produced, thus spending the least time in an expensive on-line suite.
