When a client wants a video produced, whether it be an advert for tv or an internal training video, they will normally produce a brief for the production company to see. It is a basic outline of the video they want produced and will have to meet certian criteria, such as who the target audiance is, duration of video, and budgets. Ask them if they have a particular style they want portrayed, ie, comical or serious, or perhaps a particular genre such as a western or sci-fi. From this, and some further research and meetings with your client, you will be able to create a treatment. This is a very basic script. It does not contain detailed words and actions, but outlines the key structure of the video, including filming styles and proposed actors and locations. The treatment is also broken down into a single paragraph summing up the video known as a synopsis. It is used to explain a video to crew or client without going into the full details.
