I got my first camcorder in 1987, and taught myself how to use it, buying lots of books on video making and editing and attending 3 college courses. I now teach students how to make videos but often there is little time to impart the mass of information I have learnt over the years. Video making encompasses so many different subjects and art forms that it is impossible to learn even the basics of making a film in a day. My intention is to produce a web site which will cover all the things I have learnt, and which can be used as a source of reference by film students not just in the UK, but around the world, for film making requires the same techniques and disciplines no matter what country you live in. I am a video maker by experience, but most of these techniques equally apply to those wanting to make feature films as well. If you live in the Surrey area and want to have some practical experience then you could join the evening class I run at Collingwood College.
In my pages I will include examples of paperwork and possibly even video clips to go with the different topics. Most will be based upon a video I produced for the Surrey Ambulance Service. Its full title is "There's No Such Thing as a Typical Day", that's a bit of a mouthful so I will refer to it as the 'SAS' video.
