X-Plane Adventures: Contest Winners

You are the pilot of a charter jet Airbus 300. Your company have won the

contract to pick up prizewinners in a national competition, the prize for

which is a week's holiday in the Isle of Man. You are based in Manchester, so

are handling the northern part of the UK. You have to fly ILS from Manchester,

with a half full load, up to Newcastle, to pick up another load of winners.

Then you go on to Glasgow to pick up the Scottish winners, whereby you then

fly direct to the Isle of Man with your party. The return trip is easy, a

three quarter full plane load back straight to Manchester, where you end your

day. Don't forget though that next week, you must fly to the isle of Man,

possibly empty, to pick up the party and do the reverse trip, dropping them

off at their respective airports. Change the plane if you so wish. Happy flying!

EGCC Manchester (113.55) to EGNT Newcastle (114.25). 102 miles.

Take off and fly 010° to Pole Hill (112.1) and then 017° to Newcastle.

This is about a 30 minute journey in the Airbus. No ILS here so be careful.

EGNT Newcastle (114.25) to EGPF Glasgow (115.40). 106 miles.

Take off and fly 305° to Talla (113.80) and then 307° to Glasgow.

Another roughly 30 minute journey, with ILS landing.

EGPF Glasgow (115.40) to EGNS Isle of Man (112.20). 107 miles.

Take off and fly 207° to Turnberry (117.5), then 20 miles after Turnberry

turn left to 171° to the Isle of Man. Having set your HSI to 171° it should

centre at the correct place to turn. Make sure you keep to the radial and do not

stray. Again about a half hours journey.

EGNS Isle of Man (112.20) to EGCC Manchester (113.55). 96 miles.

Fly 131° to Wallasey (114.10). You will be contacted by Manchester ATC before

reaching the beacon. Follow instructions and land on the ILS. A nice short

journey back, and a good day's work.

Don't forget next week, to return to Isle of Man and then reverse the

procedure to get the folks home.
