Asylum has a great email group that are run by the Yahoo Groups system. It's where we chat about everything that is going on with Asylum. It's a great place to get to know us and find out what we are getting up. To use it you need to register with Yahoo as a user. Fortunately Yahoo has got a good reputation and you shouldn't receive any junk mail as a result of doing this. The only thing that happens is that Yahoo attaches an advert to the group emails which is something that we don't have control over. The group is
called AsylumLive. Sometimes
there can be quite a number of emails but you can limit this by using
the digest option. This will compile multiple emails into one that
makes it easier to manage them. We also have a MySpace page and Facebook grouo see the links page for more details. Rules. There are just two basic rules to follow when posting to any of the Asylum groups. 1. Respect each other. Because of the nature of email it's easy to post a message on the spur of the moment which you may later regret. Always read your message back to yourself. Try to put yourself in the position of another person reading it for the first time. Will they realise your little joke was you having some fun and not take it seriously? When you are discussing someone elses acts are you sure everyone needs to know them or is it just gossip? Fortunately Asylum is a friendly place and we haven't had any disputes so far but remember that this forum is available to all and even your Mum could be reading it! 2. Don't include the WHOLE of the message in your reply. If you reply to the digest version of the list then you could be posting 20 other emails with your message. This gets very confusing and annoys people who subscribe to the digest version. If you want to include a quote then try to keep it down to one or two lines. I've been using the internet since the 1980's when downloading just one picture would take an hour (and cost you 2 quid) so I tend to be quite strict on people sending unnecessary data. There seems to be an error with Yahoo Groups that causes some messages to not be able to be read via email. It think this may have something to do with the format that your email client is set up to use. I'm investigating this but if you have trouble you can always use the web client at www.yahoogoups.com. Finally if you have any questions or complaints about the Asylum groups then please contact the moderator at asylumlive@bigfoot.com. |
