Krakow has 3 large hotels right by Krakow Glowny station.

Hotel Europejski, Hotel Warszawski, and the Hotel Polonia.

They are of a similar standard and price. We stayed at the Hotel Europejski and in January a double room with ensuite, including breakfast, cost about USD$45.00. The bar and restaurant have recently been renovated and are very comfortable, serving food to a good standard for very reasonable prices. A two course meal for two people with a few glasses of beer each cost us about USD$20.00 in total. Taxi drivers wait in the hotel lobby and offer trips to Auschwitz and City tours and they will wait as long as you wish at any particular spot. We visited the former Jewish Ghetto, Schindler Factory, Schindler Memorial and other related sites this way.

From the Hotel it is a short walk to the old part of town which is still largely original as Krakow and was not bombed in the war. The Old Town, the Market Square and Wawel Castle are all close by and in walking distance.
