Browsing a WEB site can often be a lengthy process, particularly when you
become engrossed in its contents. If you find a page of interest, and want
to keep down the online telephone charges, you might consider using
Web Site Mirror software. These are tools that will allow you to use
your connection to download the 'raw' html data and store it on your hard
disk. You can then 'browse'the pages off-line at your own rate. One of
the best known 'site mirrors' is WebWhacker, which when given a URL
will download the whole, or part of, the site.
The software I use is 'Net-Attache Light', a cut down version of a
commercial package. The software will load down a site, along with links,
to a depth which is set by the user. The pages are placed into a
folder, within a "brief", which can be viewed later.
There is also software available that will allow you to explore your
WEB browsers cache. They operate by examining the data of the Netscape
cashe and then reassembling it into local WEB pages.
A package called UN-Mozify I particularly like. The package
will index and recreate Netscape cashe data as WEB pages replacing the
missing images with its own icons. Another 'cache explorer',
called "Secret Agent", will soon be available to present 'Internet
Explorer' as well as 'Netscape Navigater'.
