The map names about thirty places in Essex and another five outside the county boundary, including London.

Roads shown are:
1. London to Harwich via Rumford, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester.
2. Chelmsford via Braintry and Halstead to the boundary with Suffolk where To Bury is engraved.
3. Colchester to the Suffolk border where To Ipswich is engraved.

The Thames, Lea, Crouch, Chelmer, Blackwater and Stour rivers are named.

Second state

The imprint is unchanged.

About fifty place names have been added.

Roads added are:
1. Waltham Abbey to Dunmow via Epping, Harlow and Shering.
2. Stratford to Tilbury Fort via Barking, Dagenham, Rainham, Aveley and Grais.
3. A branch from the Stratford-Tilbury Fort road between Aveley and Grais to Brentwood via Warley.
4. Stratford to Brentwood via Woodford and South Weald.
5. Tilbury Fort to Chelmsford via Horndon, Dunton Waylet and Billericay.
6. Chelmsford to Lea via Rattendon and Rayleigh.
7. Horndon to Rayleigh.
8. Rumford to join the Horndon-Rayleigh road just north of Rayleigh via Horn Ch, Dunton Waylet and Bassildon.
9. Chelmsford via Onger to the Bark. Creek to the north of Rumford.
10. Chelmsford to Dunmow via Waltham and Black Ch.
11. Stortford in Hertfordshire to Stanway on the Chelmsford-Colchester road just west of Colchester via Stansted, Dunmow, Braintry, Coggeshall and Taymark.
12. A branch from the previous road just to the east of Stortford via Newport, Walden and Lit Walden to the boundary with Cambridgeshire.
13. Another branch from the Stortford-Stanway road east of Dunmow via Bradfield, Wethersfield and Henningbe to join the road between Halstead and the boundary with Suffolk.
14. Colchester to Walton via Bentley.
15. Colchester to Milton via Petersrow, Maldon, Farnbridge and Rochford.
16. Rochford to the Crouch river near the east coast.
17. Maldon via Alburn and The Town to Bradwel. There is a branch from this road to the northwest of Alburn which also goes to Bradwel.

The name Maningtree R has been added to the the estuary of the Stour river.

SURRY has been engraved in the top left hand corner of the map.

Dotted line Surrey/Kent and Cambridgeshire/Suffolk boundaries have been added and the Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire boundary has been extended.

In the left-hand information panel the fair days for Epping have been changed to Novemb. 2. and Whitsun Tuesday. (previously April 2d. Sept: 2d. Nov 2d. Whitsun-Tuesday.).
