First state

Scale: English Miles. (10 = 42mm)

The map names about twenty places in Surrey and a further six outside the county boundary.

Roads shown are:
1. Southwark to the county boundary with Hampshire (where to Portsmouth is engraved beside the road) via Kingston, Guilford and Godalming.
2. Guilford to Farnham.
3. Godalming to the boundary with Sussex east of Haslemere.
4. Southwark to the county boundary south of Darking via Ewell, Epsom and Darking.
5. Southwark to Rygate via Croydon.
6. A branch leaves the previous road between Croydon and Rygate and goes to the boundary at the south-east of the county via Blechingley.
7. A road from south-east London to Bromley in Kent.
8. A road crossing the north-west of Surrey from Stains in Middlesex to the boundary with Hampshire.

The rivers Wey, Mole and Vandal are named on the map, as is the Tun, which enters Surrey from Kent. River runs under ground is engraved beside part of the course of the Mole. The Thames is shown without a name.

Second state

The imprint is unchanged.

Over one hundred place names have been added to the map. Wandsworth has been erased from its previous position to the west of the Vandal river and re-engraved on the east side. Towting has been erased and re-engraved smaller. The appropriate area on the first and second state maps is shown below (first state on the left).

Roads added are:
1. Guilford to the boundary with Sussex at Awfold via Shalford and Wonersh.
2. Chertsey via Bottles and Cobham to Frimley and on to the boundary with Hampshire.
3. A branch from the previous road between Chertsey and Bottles goes via Woking to join the Kingston-Guilford road near Guilford.
4. Darking to the boundary with Sussex via Newdigate.
5. Rygate via Buckland and Beachworth to join the Epsom-Darking road near Darking.
6. Rygate to Westram in Kent via Nutfield, Blechingley, Godstone, Oxsted and Limpsfield.
7. A branch from the previous road just to the east of Rygate via Horley to the boundary with Sussex.
8. Godstone to Tatesfield via Titsey.

The Thames is now named, once as R. Thames and once as River Thames.

Third state

Imprint changed to:
Publish'd by the Proprietor W H Toms Sept. 29. 1742.

Clapham (added in the second state) has been erased and re-engraved slightly further east to allow for the addition of Battersea. Stretham has also been added. The appropriate area on the second and third state maps is shown below (second state on the left).
