BAKA BEYOND

Joe Boyd's departure from Hannibal Records led Baka Beyond to release their fifth album, "East to West" on their own label, March Hare Music.
"East to West" furthers Baka Beyond's unique fusion of Celtic and African music as well as their collaboration with the Baka Forest People, hunter-gatherer musicians who live in the rainforest of South East Cameroon.

New album,
"East to West"

The opening track "Awaya Baka", a song written by Baka guitarist Pelembie, features a chorus sung by Baka children recorded in the forest. The next track, "Braighe Locheil", is a Scottish song sung in Gaelic augmented by Senegalese kora and Ghanaian balafon, whilst "Wandering Spirit" is based on a dance that the Baka asked Martin Cradick to take to the outside world seamlessly combined with an Irish slipjig.
