In August 1999, I had a visit from an Australian relative who is very interested in cathedrals. The pictures on this page resulted from a trip to Peterborough, which I had never previously visited.

This is the West Front of Peterborough Cathedral. |
It has no towers or spires of any size, but nevertheless presents an impressive front. |
There are several sun-driven timepieces around the Cathedral.
I hesitate to call them sundials, as they are square.
They are also positioned vertically on the walls, rather than horizontally, as most sundials are.
The one on the left is on the West front of the Cathedral. |
The grounds to the side of the Cathedral are very pleasing, and afford good views of the Cathedral. To the right is the view looking towards the front of the Cathedral, and below is the view looking towards the rear. |

Here is another sun-driven timepiece. This one can be found near the side door towards the front. |
Facing away from the Cathedral, the remains of some of the monastic buildings can be seen. |
These well preserved remains include the monks' lavatorium. |
Here are some examples of stained glass found inside the Cathedral: |
On the left is the pulpit, while on the right is the lectern used for Bible readings. |
From the Choir, the elaborate Victorian High Altar can be seen. The floors in Peterborough Cathedral are also of note. |
Above the High Altar is a painted ceiling depicting Jesus and the twelve apostles. |
