Blue Circle (Sittingbourne)
Sea Angling Club
Shockleaders save lives and prevent damage to property!

Welcome to the web site for what we think is Kent's most friendly Sea Angling Club. Our aim is to make sea fishing a friendly and enjoyable pastime for young, old, male or female anglers!

We are a Sittingbourne based club with 20-25 members that has been in existence since 1966 and try to keep ourselves as friendly as possible.

To this aim we hold monthly beach trips and monthly meetings, both very informal and, hopefully, enjoyable to both novice and experienced anglers.

We occasionally have friendlies against other clubs and run the odd boat trip. The Club has regular social activities for its members and their F.P.O.'s (Fishing Permission Officers). These in the past have included Bar-B-Ques, quiz nights and our Annual Awards Evening.

We issue a monthly newsletter to all members to keep them informed of all the news and views in the club (this newsletter can also be see here on the web site).

Fees

Membership fees are £12.00 for seniors (over 16 on Jan 1st), and £4.00 per year for juniors and senior statesmen for our sport and £20 for family membership (2 dults 2 children) There is also a monthly match fee of £1 per member.

Monthly meetings

The Club meets once a month on the Wednesday after the monthly trip at the Billet Pub in Sittingbourne. In addition we have an Annual General Meeting (normally in January).

Fishing trips

The Club fish monthly shore trips, normally of six hours duration. Most of our outings are fished at venues around the Kent coast. The total length of fish that each angler has caught decides the winner each month. This means that every fish caught counts, regardless of size. This also means that we can do our bit for conservation by returning small or inedible fish.

Throughout the years members compete for trophies, as listed below, which are won using a points system as shown below: -
1 point for attending a match
1 point for registering fish
3 points for winning the match
2 points for coming 2nd
1 point for coming 3rd
1 point for attending the monthly meeting

Trophies

The winner of a monthly match receives a trophy at our annual presentation. In addition there are trophies for the Senior and Junior Angler of the Year, Unluckiest Senior and Junior of the Year, Clubman of the Year, Biggest Bag, Most Fish, Biggest Cod, Biggest Flatfish, Biggest Pouting, Biggest Whiting, Singles Knockout Cup and a Pairs Tournament, Summer Trophy and Winter Trophy.

Conservation Conscious!

As an attempt to play a part in the conservation of fish stocks, the Club decided on a policy of measuring all fish caught in their monthly outings. What this means is that every fish caught is measured to the next highest half centimetre and, if not wanted for eating, put back into the sea in the minimum amount of time and with the least adverse effect to the fish.

Never been fishing?

We'll teach you if you want.

We can offer advice on purchasing rods, reels and tackle. We can help with travel to and from matches and we'll even teach you how to cast and become a proficient angler, although we won't guarantee you'll catch fish!
