Issue 4 The Circular - your monthly newsletter Did you hear all that banging on Wednesday night? You may of thought it was thunder but I have it on good authority that it was in fact a pair of newly weds going at it hammer and tongs on their honeymoon night on the Isle of Sheppy...indeed it was our very own Derek Tree and his lovely bride Mary Lynn making all that noise (it was some kind of tremor ...TREEMOORE)!!! We should of warned her about Derek but....what the heck life is full of surprises. I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing them all the best in their new life together and I'm sure it will get him out of the house more fishing!! Here are a few little tips picked up along the way about the fishing at Dungeness:- Best time to fish...3 hours up to high water and 2 hours after in a south westerly wind The beach near the boats give shelter to fish in very strong south westerly winds From behind the power station towards Dengemarsh the beach becomes shallower There are several areas to fish at Dungeness....the fishing boats, the point, between the lighthouses, the outfalls (the boil), along the power station road and along to the Diamond and Dengemarsh Tide runs from west to east on the flood Summer species...pouting, sole, bass, mackerel Winter species...whiting, codling, dab Best fishing for sole is at night with the period around dawn being best if you can stay up that long or get up that early!! Best bait to use all year in my opinion is lugworm...locals swear by local Dungie Black Lug (which they sell!!!) but fish with plenty of blow lug and you cant go far wrong The Point is where two tides meet and deposit all that food the fish are looking for. Line up the old and new lighthouses to locate the Point or Dustbin Dungeness is a private estate and people live near the car parking places so remember not to make any noise late at night, don't slam car doors, boots etc. Fish feed most when the tide is running....fish with a grip lead to avoid tangling with other anglers and having your trace washed up on the shore Saturday night can get crowded at "Dungy" so try fishing mid week when there wont be so many people trying to catch your first double figure cod Tip lug baits with white ragworm to make sure the fish take the business end of the hook Granddaddy Butler has asked me to remind you all that your subs are over due so bring your cash to the next club meeting on Wednesday 23rd May. Jason
Mann has been throwing his weight around again (and he's got enough of
that so Kerry says!!) this time at Huntingdon at a UKSF event where he
cast 238 meters some 263 yards to get into the top 15 casters in the country...I
knew we shouldn't have taken him casting all those years back...he was
happy to cast with a boat reel then....now its an obsession.... and then
he phones me up to say he's knackered after walking up and down the field
too much!! Well if you didn't chuck it so far...doh!! I'll see you on the beach John Padmore Secretary |
