The Circular - your monthly newsletter

Here is what you have been waiting for.... your newsletter from your fishing club with all the news and views you need to know.

The attached minutes of the last meeting sets out the things discussed and has all the times of the next match etc.

Apologies for the lateness of the newsletter this month but I just had to wait to for Mark Hammonds report about the recent jolly to Hastings. You missed at good trip......guess who snores the loudest?

Jason Mann has found out about the boat trips being run by Hope Fishing Club which are on 13th October and 10th November leaving from Gillingham Pier. I dont know where they drop you off but what the heck you're game for a laugh! Take your own bait for these trips.

Expect to catch some tasty Dover sole, some bass, some whiting and some pouting at Dengemarsh. I have also heard reports of codling being caught at Hythe which only around the corner from Dungeness and knowing our luck that is where they will stay unless they have all gone down to Hastings....

Dungeness black lug is recommended by local bait diggers who sell it for the sole but normal lugworm will be just as effective for all the fish listed above. Try some mackerel to tip off the end of the bait for the larger whiting and pouting.

Use size 2 or smaller hooks on your traces. Try using metal booms which are an attractor to the sole, so THEY say, and dont fish too far out because they are usually caught at the bottom of the beach slope where the shingle meets the shale or rough sand.

A tip to judge where that is when you are fishing up the beach when the tide comes in is, while the tide is out (or you may get wet unless you can persuade a mate to do it for you!) is to place your weight on the beach and walk back up the beach, letting line out as you go.....I can see Mark dragging his weight up the beach now!....to where you will be fishing when the tide is in and then tie a knot/loop in your line. Then when you are casting out when the tide is in just stop your reel when the loop of line has passed throught your rod rings (wind it back in if you have to) and hey presto you are fishing in exactly the right place where the fish were caught the day before and will be caught the day after the match!

You can adapt this idea when you catch fish usually......when you get a bite tie a small elastic band to the line before you reel in.......when you cast out again when the elastic band goes through rod rings stop the reel and you will have your bait fishing in the sameish place that you caught your last fish and that may increase your chance of catching another fish by at least 62.354%

I'll see you on the beach

John Padmore

Secretary
