02.11 The
Circular - your monthly newsletter The next trip is looming up shortly at sunny and warm Walmer. Expect to catch those lovely whiting, the odd flounder and pouting. Hope to catch a big cod. During the daylight hours when the sun is shining brightly in the winter the fishing can be very hit and miss. A look at the recent Open at Deal shows that the winner (a top angler) caught 10 sizeable fish, I think, mostly whiting so don't expect to catch much. However, what you have to remember in these circumstances is that it is the same for everyone on the beach and a positive mental attitude can help you be more successful .you may not catch any fish this trip but you can learn much from those around you. During
the daylight it is much easier to be shown how to tie those knots, what
traces to use, find out how she can cast further than me and see where
the dog shit is on the beach. If you are not catching look at someone who is .why are they catching .are they casting further ..are they casting shorter .are they using a different bait .are they using a different type of trace .different hooks ..longer hook lines .plain leads ..grip leads .see how you can copy them ..ask them to show you. I don't think there is any one in this club that won't show you what they do so when the fishing is a 'bit' slow go and ask. When someone is catching whiting three at a time at night they might be a bit too busy to help but I don't think that will be the case on Sunday .doh!! Unfortunately there are two competitions on the pier at Deal on 8th December so I think we will have to look at another venue/date for the December match so put your thinking caps on for the next meeting at The Billet on Wednesday 20th November. Unfortunately the 4 places available on the Hope boat trip were quickly taken but fear not there is another trip being arranged for 8th December (that date seems familiar) so if you missed out last time phone Jason Mann to show your interest as soon as possible. If there is enough interest he may be able to get two boats filled. It normally costs about £15 - supply your own bait. This time out they caught plenty of decent sized whiting, pouting and the odd codling a good time was had by all. I'll see you on the beach John
