Blue Circle (Sittingbourne)
Sea Angling Club

Issue 01.03 20.02.03

The Circular - your monthly newsletter

Here it is then a quick newsletter this month - the reason this out early is to remind you about the presentation meal on 1st March - if you haven't already placed your order let Mark Hammond know now………no I mean now put this down and phone him to let him know if you are coming and if you are what you want…..quick hurry up!!

The next match at Princes Parade is a points match - the object of this match is to get as many points as you can to win. You get points by catching fish. Each fish will get you a certain number of points. Those points are as follows:-

Mackerel 1
Pouting 1
Scorpion fish 1
Weaver 1
Whiting 1
Rockling 3
Dab 4
Eel 6
Flounder 6
Plaice 8
Sole 8
Bass 10
Cod 10
Dogfish 15
Skate 15
Unclassified 15

As you can see from the list adjacent, which is sorted in points value order for your convenience and at no extra cost, if you catch fish with a greater point value you will get more points per fish! To get the most points you need to catch the greatest number of fish with the highest points value that you can. You will have to judge how you will get the most points - it maybe by catching loads of whiting and pouting - or it maybe by trying to catch a few flounder close in to the shore. 20 whiting and pouting will get you 20 points but just 4 flounder will get you 24 points to win or and just 2 poor cod (which are unclassified) will get you 30 points. Now then what does a poor cod look like? Would you know what it is if it came up and bit you on the ar_e? Well they are very similar to pouting so make sure you know the difference before you put that 'pout' back in the water. Now then what is a bib pout, lesser pout or a whiting pout? Well these could be 15 points or 14 points lost if you are not careful! Now then we move onto rockling there at least 3 different types that I know of, then of course there are the sole at least 3 types I think and don't talk to me about the different types of dogfish I could keep going all day on that one!

Keep an eye on what others are catching and where, take a variety of baits and fish at different distances. Fish near a feature such as a groyne and catch those gobies, dragonets and blennies all day long!!

I'll see you on the beach

Secretary
