Order that bait now the next match is nearly here and this match will see a dramatic up turn in catches. The will be on Saturday 19th July fishing from 18.00 - 00.00 pick up at 16.30 at Aldi's. Low tide is at about 23.00 so we will be fishing the tide down for most of the match. This isn't ideal - fishing over low water and up half the tide is best I have found but there will be plenty about as the sun goes down and we fish into darkness.

Expect to catch dabs, pouting, whiting, bass, plaice and sole. Lugworm will be the best all round bait to use but as usual take some variety with you if you can - a few ragworm will be irresistible to the pouting - white ragworm highlights a bait in clear water - bass love fresh mackerel. There will also be a chance of catching some mackerel so don't forget to bring those feathers along.

Have you tried those Hokai lures for catching mackerel? They are quite effective but they can also be used to good effect to catch other fish. Cut off the fluorescent lures and retie them in a trace that you would normally use such as a three hook paternoster with 200 mm long hook lengths and use bait with the lures. You'll be fishing with a set of bright lures to catch those fish that fish by sight such as bass and mackerel and a juicy bait to attract the other fish such as sole that fish by smell/taste…. The perfect rig I hear you all shout……well it may not be but its worth having a go…..keep the fluorescent lures by your lamp at night to 'charge' them so they glow in the murky water attracting fish from miles around…..well that's what Rex Hunt and Bushy would say!!

A big Well Done to the ladies last month for showing how it should be done with Kay Hammond winning her first match and Larissa Scanlon a close second.

A big Well Done to Jason Mann for qualifying and being selected to represent his country at International level on the casting field. I know we all know him as that the bloke you fish next to and have got used to him projecting a lead to the horizon when needed but you have to step back and have a look at his achievement to really appreciate how good he is….in footballing terms he would be playing for England…..he is a David Beckham of the casting world…..so next time you see him on the beach ask to borrow his Alice Band!!! Good luck Jason in Italy.

I'll see you on the beach
