12.03 The
Circular - your monthly newsletter Here we go then the last match of the year - your final chance to take home some silverware at next years presentation. Expect to catch whiting (some quite large), pouting, rockling, dabs, the odd flounder or plaice and some of those ugly mini species that lurk by the pier wall. Use size 2 or smaller hooks on three hook traces - use longer hook snoods than you would normally use from the beach so that the bait is on the sea bed when fishing from the elevated position on the pier. Don't forget the fish are often straight down the edge of the wall so try fishing away and close to the pier to find where the fish are biting most. Use plastic or French booms for fishing down the wall to spread the baits apart and to prevent tangles. The fishing has been very patchy by all accounts from contacts down that way but that's sure to change when Blue Circle turn up!!. Best baits to use will be lugworm and ragworm. Smaller unclassified species will most probably go for maddies or white rag if you can get it This is a
points match so try and target the fish that will get you the most points
to win
..this could be catching plenty whiting which only earn a
small number of points each or targeting the fish that will earn you more
points such as unclassified fish or bass for example which maybe less
numerous on the day. Remember there is a difference between a 'pouting'
and a 'poor cod' but they look very similar pouting = 2 points poor cod
= 15 points what the difference is
.? Take a variety of baits if you can.....some lugworm, ragworm, mackerel, squid etc to give you a chance of getting a variety of fish. Give Jason Mann a call on 01795 553948 and he might be able to get you some bargain bait. I'll see you on the beach
