Blue Circle (Sittingbourne)
Sea Angling Club

Issue 04.0614.06.04

The Circular - your monthly newsletter

Here it is what you have been waiting for - your newsletter with news and views from your fishing club.

The next venture down to the waters edge is coming up soon so get that bait ordered now. We shall be raiding Blacketts at Tonge just outside Sittingbourne to see what the Swale can offer the keen angler.

This venue is fishing from the sea defence wall onto the mudflats of the Swale. We will be fishing for bass mainly. You want to use light tackle to flick your ragworm bait a maximum of 30m out from the shore. The bass are caught within this range usually on a 1 hook trace with longish lengths of hook line at least 300 mm. Use small hooks as the fish are usually small with the occasional fish reaching 2 kg. Use a fairly strong pattern of hook though as the fine wire hooks can be bent out of shape and loose you fish - if there is the odd eel about they can soon twist off a fine wire hook. Ragworm will be the bait to use the common red rag, king rag, white rag or maddies will all do the business but I wouldn't leave home without some lugworm whenever I go fishing but that's up to you. The rocks along the sea wall harbour loads of crabs as well which the bass are after so a few peeler crab could be useful - you might even get some while you're there. Jason Mann has kindly obtained us special permission to get access down to the sea wall so I want everyone to give him a big kiss when you see him for being so lovely and because its his birthday as well!! I would suggest we give him the bumps on the day but Health and Safety Lifting regulations would require us to get a few more members before we could lift such a weight. However the point is we must ensure, like we usually do, that no rubbish is left behind us, that we take home all bait wrappers, fag butts and packets, and leave no discarded line etc - leave only footprints and take home happy memories.

If you need some spare trace making materials phone David Allen for some bargain bits and pieces and if you need some value for money bait give Jason a call as soon as you can. Don't forget it's Fathers Day so take your dad fishing and wear a cap if you don't want the Child Support Agency to get you again!!!!

See you on the beach

Secretary
