The
next trip is looming up this Saturday at sunny and warm Deal beach!!!!.
Expect to catch those lovely whiting, the odd flounder and pouting. Hope
to catch a big cod.
If the whiting are in then there should be non stop action for everyone
but they will comp through the bait fairly quickly - get a mackerel or
two to take with you to save on those worms (although at the last match
investigative fishing by Dan Crayford indicated that mackerel wasn't as
successful for whiting as worm baits but it still caught fish).
However don't forget you are fishing for points and those ugly little
blennies, gobbies, scorpion fish and the like caught near the groins are
worth 5 points each - catch 10 of them and someone else will have to catch
50 whiting to get the same points as you - there's not much meat on them
to eat but
points make prizes!
Take a variety of baits if you can.....some lugworm, ragworm, mackerel,
squid etc to give you a chance of getting a variety of fish. Give Jason
Mann a call on 01795 553948 and he might be able to get you some bargain
bait. If the fishing isn't as good as I am predicting, what you have to
remember in these circumstances is that it is the same for everyone on
the beach and a positive mental attitude can help you be more successful
.you
may not catch any fish this trip but you can learn much from those around
you.
If you are not catching look at someone who is
.why are they
catching
.are they casting further
..are they casting shorter
.are
they using a different bait
.are they using a different type
of trace
.different hooks
..longer hook lines
.plain
leads
..grip leads
.see how you can copy them
..ask
them to show you. I don't think there is any one in this club that won't
show you what they do so when the fishing is a 'bit' slow go and ask.
When someone is catching whiting three at a time at night they might be
a bit too busy to help but
.doh!!
It will be
cold on Saturday night so come prepared - I don't just mean wear your
long sleeved T shirt - put loads of light layers on covered with a wind
proof jacket and those Christmas fishing socks and gloves you got for
the last 5 years - if you are cold you will not be concentrating on the
fishing. A favourite top tip is to sit in the car on the promenade eating
a bag of hot vinegary chips to keep your hands warm and don't forget it
is difficult to warm up a pie on the top of an electric lamp.
If you have
any queries, you are not sure about anything or you need to know something
phone me on the number below and I'll do my best to help.
I'll see you on the beach
