Match comments
A disappointing number of Blue Circle members turned
out for this match so John Johnson of Hope fishing club offered to fish
for the Blue Circle side to make up our numbers.
The match was fished over high water and the strong tides running from
Dungeness towards Dover along the Pier made it very difficult to hold
out from the wall. Make a note to take your 175g fixed wire weights
with you next time.
The majority of the fish caught were pouting, dabs and whiting although
there were also some dogfish caught on the pier.
It was reported that dogfish to 3lb were caght on the pier on the Saturday
night before. The Admiralty Pier is also fishing very well at the moment
for dogfish.
The best places to catch fish appeared to be on the marshalls corner
and just before and just after this corner. Local advise suggested the
best place to fish was just past the corner where the path starts to
narrow. Here there is meant to be a gully about 75 yards out where fish
travel along during the tide run. It was also suggested that after the
tide drops off it is often very productive to fish down along side oif
the wall.
It costs £2 per person to fish the pier as a club and £3
to park the car in the car park at the start of the pier.
