This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologys to those whose information has not been added yet.

Photos of individuals can be found in their Scrapbooks. To see who has them click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am adding feature pages containing a more detailed mix of notes, photos and links. These pages are listed to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few.

NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

If you find any errors or would like to update your line please let me know. Bean

Notes

George Smith

Notes from Lavinia McKewan:

George and Amelia arrived in Brisbane, Queensland on 30th December 1886 as deatailed below:

Duke of Sutherland sailed from London on the 1st November 1886 and arrived at Brisbane on the 30th December 1886 with passengers including: SMITH GEORGE 39 SMITH AMELIA 28 SMITH HARRIETT 9 SMITH LEONARD 4 SMITH GEORGINA 1 Occupation or calling for George is listed as what looks like F.L and he and Amelia are shown as both being able to read, white and Protestant. County or Country listed as Berks.

Leonard is listed on his marriage certificate as having been born in Pietermaritzberg, South Africa and his age is given as 24 years. He was married on September 6th 1906 to Malinda Hemmings aged 23 years born Peabody's Blocks London England.
No records could be found for a Leonard Thomas Smith born in Pietermartizberg around 1882. Lavinia's grandmother, Louisa Amelia Jane Smith, was born in Brisbane and moved to Melbourne when she was 10 years old, after Malinda Hemmings died. Nothing is known of Leonard Smith after 1920 although he is said to have remarried and had a son Lenny.
Leonard Thomas Smith and Malinda Hemmings had two children both girls - Louisa Amelia Jane born 29 June 1910 and her older sister Malinda Rose born around 1907. On Louisa's birth certificate Leonard again lists his birth in Pietermaritzberg. After Malinda Hemmings died the girls moved to Melbourne and went to live with Malinda's sister Rose

Lavinia McKewan moved back to Brisbane with husband and children in 1989 and began to look for the Smith side of the family.

Albert Hounsom

I originally had a date of death as 1892, which would make him 4 years old. The photo of him clearly disagrees with this. The other scenario is that the photo is of another Albert Hounsom.

Ethel Lillian Hounsom

Died in March qtr of GRO at Sevenoaks.

Violet May (Jane) Combes

ABODES ......... 1911 (Birth G.R.O.)
Alverstoke

1932 (Marriage Certificate)
Warners Cottage, Durley.

Put in foster home when her Father died (Army?). Vi and brother (John or Jack?) moved back home when her Mother "Harriet" married William Owen Hibdige, (Dorothy's Father). Then left home to live with Dolly who was married to Dorothy's brother John (Jack).

As a child Vi used to spend her holidays with Emily, her Mother's sister, in Portsmouth.

Her brother (John/Jack?) died in London about 1992. Also said to have a sister Ruby?

Vi also lived at Moor Green Road, then Beaulieu Rookery, then Romsey Road, Nr Cadnham.

Ron Bridgen thinks someone committed suicide in a water butt at Warners Cottage, Durley. Probably Leslie Crosswell's father.

Her family tree is said to be found in the Priory at Beaulieu, but I have not yet managed to trace it.
