This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologys to those whose information has not been added yet.

Photos of individuals can be found in their Scrapbooks. To see who has them click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am adding feature pages containing a more detailed mix of notes, photos and links. These pages are listed to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few.

NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

If you find any errors or would like to update your line please let me know. Bean

Thomas Coates (See notes)

Thomas (b.1831, husband of Harriet S. Everest) gave his father's name as Thomas Coates on the wedding certificate. He could have made this name up as Ross Vicars has found that his mother, Matilda Coats was unmarried when he was born and he was raised by Matilda's parents.

Matilda married John Bryant a year late and had at least 3 children. The fact that Thomas (jnr) was raised by Matilda's parents suggests that John Bryant was not his father.

Matilda Coats

Notes from Ross Vicars:
The mother of Thomas Coates was Matilda Coats - born in Redford Sussex in 1810 and died after 1880. She was unmarried when she had Thomas and he was raised by his Grandparents, Richard and Obedience Coats.

The spelling changed from Coats to Coates in 1820

Richard Coats

Notes from Ross Vicars:
The mother of Thomas Coates was Matilda Coats - born in Redford Sussex in 1810 and died after 1880. She was unmarried when she had Thomas and he was raised by his Grandparents, Richard and Obedience Coats.

The spelling changed from Coats to Coates in 1820.

Our Richard Coats was born in Frant (according to the census records) about 1771. He was however, not baptised until 26 Aug 1779. Occasionally vicars would write notes in the Register when a child was not an infant but there is nothing in the Frant records to explain why the delay.
