H1. ANN FERRY born TREVETT

Ann Trevett was born about 1818-9, in Long Bredy, Dorset. She was baptised there on the 26th December 1819.1

In 1841 she was one of two female servants at Cogden House, Burton Bradstock, in the household of William & Richard Roberts, farmers.2

On the 29th December 1845 she married [G2] Richard Ferry, at Burton Bradstock parish church; she marked her name.3

Their children were: [G1] Alice Jane (1846), John (1849), Amelia (1852), Harry (1855), Annie (1857), and Catherine (1860). Alice Jane was born in Burton Bradstock, the others in Southampton.4

Shortly after 1846 the family moved to Southampton. John, Amelia and Harry were born at 4 St Mary Street, Southampton. In 1851 she was working as a laundress, and living with her family at 4 St Mary’s, Southampton. After her husband became a railway porter in 1855 the household may have been better off, for subsequent censuses list no occupation for Ann. Her daughter Annie was born at 23 Amoy Street, and her youngest child Catherine at 12 Amoy Street, where Ann is to be found in the 1861 census. The 1871 finds her at 15 Liverpool Street, Southampton.5

By the time of the 1871 census, however, she was probably too ill to work. She died on the 5th August 1871, at 15 Liverpool Street, Bevois Town, Southampton, after a year's cerebral disease.6

Ann Trevett was the second child, and eldest daughter, of [H2] John and [H7] Mary Trevett.7
