Your guide to Garden Shrubs - Successful Growing

browse our stock listings

A shrub (or bush) is a 'woody' plant which can be seen to be a little different to a tree due to its lower height, usually less than 6m (20ft) tall, several perennial stems that may be upright or may lay closer to the ground.

However there are often exceptions and dependent on growing conditions a number of shrubs can develop into tree form. Typically shrubs tend to be broad leaved plants and can be either evergreen or deciduous.

Shrubs are sensitive plants are you really need to match your variety to your garden conditions determing soil composition, the aspect of your garden and whether it will live in sun or shade.

Proper spacing is vital and you need to plan for the full growth of the shrubs and plants which will live close by. If you don't there's the chance of invasion which can ultimately destroy or seriously inhibit each other.
