Bill Acraman has lived in Copthorne for over 30 years and has been a County Councillor since 1997. He is Chairman of the Rights of Way Committee, dealing with footpaths and bridle ways. Formally a Surrey County Councillor, parish councillor and chairman of his village residents association. Brought up in London, he has a Maths degree from Oxford University. His career was in atomic physics, operations research and finance, mostly in the bread and scaffolding industries. He worked in the USA for three years during the Vietnam war. Bill is a Governor of Imberhorne School. He and his wife Marion have three children and he enjoys bridge, walking and sailing.

Phillip Coote is a Mid Sussex District Councillor for the Crawley Down ward, as well as a Worth Parish Councillor. He is a director of a marketing company and is actively involved in the management of the Heatherley Cheshire Home in Copthorne, part of the Cheshire Foundation. Married with two grown-up children, Phillip lists his hobbies as carpentry, horses, walking, shooting, fishing, ski-ing and sailing.

Margaret Johnson has been a member of the County Council since 1981. Her local government experience embraces past membership of both Mid Sussex District Council and Lindfield Rural Parish Council. She has served on most of the major committees, with particular responsibilities in Education and more recently as Vice Chairman of the County Council 1997-2001, Chairman of the Sussex Police Authority 1999-2001, Chairman of the Airport Regions Conference 1997-2001, Member of the Court and Council of Sussex University, and of the County Councils Network, and Policy Advisor on Economic Development, Regional and European issues. Currently Chairman of the County Council, Chairman of the Standards Committee, Chairman of Governance Committee, Member of Joint Staff Committee and the Investment Panel. Married with two grown up children and four grandchildren, her outside interests include the theatre and ballet, classical music and travel.

John Oliver is married to Rosalie and has twin daughters at University. He has lived in Sussex all his life and in the Hurstpierpoint area for the past 30 years. His interests include swimming, music and walking. After a career in banking and subsequent retirement, he has served five years as a Manager of the British Red Cross Centre (Brighton and Hove) and now manages the Hove Society for the Disabled. For 10 years he was the Chairman and a founder member of the National Association of Rail Passengers. In these roles he achieved considerable expertise in representing, at a national level, the views and concerns of commuters, people in crisis and the disabled.
