Harold Hall, councillor for Fontwell in Arun district, has served as Leader of the Conservative Group and of the Council since May 2001. He has retired from this post with effect from 1st October 2003.
 Henry Smith, Councillor for Furnace Green in Crawley, has been elected as the new Leader of the Conservative Group and of the Council. His period of office will commence on 1st October 2003.
