The Blue Badge Network
Introducing ~ David Collins Council Member

I originally trained as a teacher during the mid-sixties and, as part of my education course, took the option on Special Education. I then went on to teach in a primary school for a year before taking a post teaching Science in a preparatory school for 18 months.

A teaching post in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia as it was then) followed, where I taught Physics, Chemistry and Biology to GCE "O" level.

When I returned from Africa I again taught Science in a preparatory school for 18 months until the school closed.

After that I went into residential child care, working in a home for Special Needs boys. I then had something of a career change by becoming a laboratory technician in a College of Further Education, which was my last job before having to take early retirement on health grounds.

Since becoming disabled 8 years ago I have become involved, not only with the Blue Badge Network, but also with the setting up of an Access Group in the Vale of Evesham and the local Shopmobility Scheme.

I am the Membership Secretary of the Vale of Evesham Group of the Ramblers Association, as I've been on the committee since the Group was formed 12 years ago and can no longer lead walks.

I am also the resident electrician for the Evesham Model Railway Club, so if any members of the Network are interested in model railways, they could always get in touch. I am actually building an exhibition standard, I hope, GWR branch-line terminus to 4mm scale and building EM track-work as well as kit-building all the rolling stock and locos.

I have a fair knowledge of computers, both hardware and software, as that was part of my job at the college and I upgraded my previous computer and also the one I am using now myself.

As well as a Council member of the Blue Badge Network I am also on the committee of our Shopmobility Scheme and Access Group, and I have been since the Access Groupwas formed four years ago.

As you can see David is a very active member of various organisations, and I think you will agree he is a great addition and valued member of the BBN Council.- Vic
