Hello.
I'm better known as Terry Jones.
I have lived on the Holden Hall Estate for 54 years and worked at
Easington Colliery for 32 years. During my time at Easington I became
Chairman of the NUM Enginemen and served in this capacity for 20
years, serving on a number of committees such as Consultative, Colliery
Housing, Safety (also Safety Inspector) Aged Miners and Welfare.
Also at Easington, all the unions combined to raise funds for the
local doctors to buy a portable ECG machine and a Fetal Heart machine
- we achieved our target and I was also elected Chairman of this
fund.
On the union side I served on the Area Executive, twice as representative
for "number one ward collieries" - these were Blackhall, Horden,
Easington and Muton.
Since I was made redundant people have still been coming to me for
advice on all kinds of subjects and I have done my best to help
them. When the Residents' Association was formed on our estate I
was elected to the position of Chairman for a full year. During
this time I was asked to represent the tenants and disabled on the
group that was formed to keep open the road to Warren House Dene
that the County Council wanted to close - we did win our fight!
