THE RIBBON CAMPAIGN

The Bringers thought long and hard before choosing a color for our ribbon campaign. At first, it seemed like all the good colors were taken. Then we hit on the idea of using two. We chose blue and black, for several reasons. Blue has traditionally been associated with freedom of speech online, thanks to organizations such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Black is traditionally the color associated with censorship. In addition to this, we thought it was appropriate for fans to wear ribbons of these colors in support to represent the way others were metaphorically "beat black and blue" by heavy handed treatment at the hands of major corporations. Lastly, the original Buffy Bringers site at www.slayme.com/bringers had black and blue as it's color scheme, so we saw it as a fitting tribute.

We advocate two types of ribbons: ribbons for your website which you can use to show your support for the Bringers and actual fabric ribbons you can wear to show your support in the physical world (as a red ribbon is worn to show support for AIDS victims).

To make these, you will need two lengths of ribbon (one black and one blue), approximately 2 to 3 inches (or 6 to 8 cm) in length, as well as a safety pin.

1. Hold the two ribbons so that they overlap slightly and fold it over into a ribbon shape (like the ones shown below).

2. Attach the safety pin where the ribbon crosses over.

3. Pin the ribbon to your coat, jacket or bag and if people ask (or even if they don't), tell them why you're wearing it and where they can find more information on us (right here at www.bringers.org).
