| Name, Place and Parents Venerable Ashin Visuta was born on 15th Waning of Tabaung, 1316 BE (Wednesday, 23rd March 1955) in Taungbo Village, Ayataw Township, Monywa District, Sa Gaing Division. His parents were U Bo Than and Daw Shwe Mhi Becoming a Samanera or novice He was sent to Dhakkhinarama Monastery, Taungbo village, Ayataw Township, when he was seven years old, to receive the basic Buddhist Education until he became a Samanera or a novice at the age of 14 under the preceptor of U Sutesana of Dhakkhinarama Monastery. He was given a Pali name as 'Shin Visuta" Receiving Higher Ordination He received higher ordination as a Bhikkhu or a monk at the age of 20 in the Sasana Visuddhi Ordination Hall, Mahajotikarama Pali University under the preceptor of U Sutesana, Dhakkhinarama Monastery, on 25th January 1975 (15th Waxing of Tabotwe, 1336 BE). Those who supported four requisites were U Than Nyunt and Daw Han Tin, Pauk Pauk Tan Street. Monywa. Learning Higher Education Then he moved to Mahajotikarama Pali University, Monywa where he learned his higher education under the guidance of Bhaddhanta Candasiri of Mahajotikarama Pali University for eight years and passed Pathamapyan Examinations (Junior, Intermediate and Advance courses) held by the religious Ministry of Government. Then he was awarded "Sasanadhaja Dhammacriya" title by the religious Ministry of Government when he finished the Teacher Training Course. Practicing Insight Meditation Ashin Visuta has had an experience of insight meditation for nearly five months under the guidance of the various qualified teachers such as Ovada cariya Sayadaw, U Pannasami ( Mahasi). Nayaka Sayadaw U Vasava (Mahasi) and Nayaka Sayadaw U Jatila (Mahasi) After finishing of his meditative practice until his satisfaction, he learned English Language as well as Buddhist Scriptures in English for five years for the purpose of propagation of Buddha's teachings all over the world at Mahasi training School for foreign Buddhtst Missions, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road. Mayangon Township, Yangon. Services rendered Ashin Visuta taught Pali Scriptures to his fellow monks and novices for one year at Aung Kwin Monastery, Phya pon and gave basic Buddhist Education to young children at Mahasi Meditation Centre during summer school holidays for seven years. Biography of Sayadaw U Sobhita
Sayadaw was born in 1951, 12th January in Pha-an, Karen State, Myanmar (Burma), and was ordained a novice at 12 and has since then been vigorously studying only Buddhism. He started his higher Buddhist education in Mahamyaing Monastery, Mawlamyaing (Moulmein)1963 and moved to the Maha Gandhayone Buddhist Institute, Amarapura in 1968 where he continued to study for 14 years. He completed his secondary and higher levels of Buddhist studies in Pali medium. He holds two Dhammacariya degrees, one awarded by the Government examination Board and the other by the Cetiyangana examination Board.
He taught Buddhism and Vipassana meditation in different places, among them Mahasi Meditation Centre, Tavoy, Taninthayi Division (1983), Chanmya Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon (1987) and a branch of Chanmyay Yeiktha in Hinthada (1992). On the invitation of the Trustees, Sayadaw U Sobhita has been residing in London Vihara, 1, Old Church Lane, London NW9 since 1995. He learnt Vipassana meditation techniques for three months each at the Mahasi Meditation Centre, Hermitage Rad, Bahan and at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon (Rangoon). He was trained to be a meditation instructor in both Centres for six months before being dispatched to branches to teach meditation.

He studied foreign languages at the Mahasi International Training School for Foreign mission. Venerable Vijjobhasa is currently doing Buddhist missionary service at the Myanmar Buddhist Vihara under the Guidance of the Mahasi Samgha Organisation. |
