10th February, 2001 Biography of Sasana Arzani Ashin Indapala Ashin Indapala was born in Magyikyun Village, Yanbye Township, Rakhine State, on 10th Waning of Waso 1322 ME of U Ngwe Tin Aung-Daw Pe Sein. He was novitiated by North Magyikyun Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sasana (Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya) with the sponsorship of his grandmother Daw Aye Mya Oo and parents in Magyikyun Village, Yanbye Township, on the Fullmoon Day of Tazaungmon 1334 ME. He was ordained by Myetnadawkyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Naginda Maha Thera of Bago at Khanda Ordination Hall of Minkyaung in Bago on 8th Waning (Tuesday) of Kason 1343 ME. He studied Buddhist literature under North Magyikyun Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sasana of Yanbye Township; Minkyaungtaik Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriya (Pali Paragu-BA) of Bago; Taikthit Pitzawtayon Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara (Pangon Treatise compiler Sayadaw) of Myaungmya; Sayadaw U Nanda (Pali Paragu); Mingun Tipitakadhara Sayadawgyi Bhaddanta Vicittasarabhivamsa and Bhamo Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa (Thirawmani-BA). He passed Dhammacariya examination held by the Government, and obtained Sasanadhara Dhammacariya and Sasanadhaja Siripavara Dhammacariya Titles. He took the Tipitakadhara examination and passed the following courses of Tipitaka treatise. Vinayadhara Title in 1346 ME, Vinara Kovida Title in 1351 ME, Visittha Dighabhanaka Title in 1353 ME, Dighanikaya Kovida Title in 1354 ME, Abhidhamma Part-1five treatises (oral) in 1357 ME, Abhidhamma Part-1 five treatises(written) in 1360 ME, Abhidhamma Part-2 (oral) in 1362 ME and he will obtain Tipitakadhara Title and certificate. (1362 - 1363 ME=Year 2001) He is now staying in Tipitaka Kyaungdaw in Dagon Township, Yangon, and striving for Tipitaka Kovida Title under the Ovada of Mingun Tipitakadhara Sayadawgyi. Biography of Sasana Arzani Ashin Sundara Ashin Sundara was born in Kyauktai Village, Myaing Township, Pakokku District, Magway Division, on 8th Waxing of Kason 1317 ME (Friday) of U Tha Don and Daw Khin Phwa. He was novitiated at the age of 12 by Magyicho Kyaung Sayadaw U Kovida at Magyicho Village, Myaing Township on 1329 ME with the sponsorship of his parents. On 2nd Waxing of Tazaungmon 1336 ME, he was ordained by Sayadaw U Kovida at Khanda Ordination Hall of Tumaungtaik in Amarapura. He studied Buddhist literature under Magyicho Kyaung Sayadaw U Kovida at Magyicho Village, Myaing Township, Pyintha Sayadaw U Jotika, Sayadaw U Nandiya of Tumaungtaik in Amarapura, U Kovidabhivamsa of Masoeyeintaik, Bhamo Sayadaw U Kumarabhivamsa and Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik Sayadaw U Tilokabhivamsa. He passed Government Dhammacariya examination and obtained Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya and Sasanadhaja Siripavara Dhammacariya Titles. He took the Tipitakadhara examination and passed the following courses of Tipitaka treatise. Dighabhanaka Title in 1337 ME, Dighanikaya Kovida Title in 1340 ME, Vinayadhara Title in 1342 ME, Vinayakovida Title in 1351 ME, Abhidhamma Part-1 (oral) in 1355 ME, Abhidhamma Part-1 (written) in 1360 ME, Abhidhamma Part-2 (oral) in 1362 ME, and he will obtain Tipitakadhara Title and certificate. (1362 - 1363 ME=Year 2001) He is now staying in Sunlun Vipassana Kyaungtaik in Thingangyun Township, Yangon, and shouldering the missionary work as the Predising Sayadaw of the Kyaungtaik. |

December, 2000 A Ceremony was held at the Karaweik Palace, Yangon, to pay respect to Sayadaw Venerable Dr. Rewata Dhamma, Agga Maha Pandita, on his 70th Birthday. Sayadaw U Revata Dhamma is the presiding Abbot at Birmingham Buddhist Vihara, U.K, and is now visiting Burma (Myanmar), giving Buddhism lectures at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University. |
| 6th November, 2000: The King of Thailand offers Kathina Robes
The King of Thailand offered Kathina robes to members of Sangha of Maha Visuddhayon Taikthit in Maha Aungmye Township in Mandalay.Present were 632 members of the Sangha led by State Ovadacariya Maha Visuddhayon Taikthit Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Bhaddanta Aggiya. The Thai delegation donated K 1.7 million for Kathina robes, the Ambassador of Thailand 200,000 bahts and Thai residents in Myanmar K 60,000, 1,000 bahts and 100 US dollar. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Aggiya delivered a sermon and, followed by sharing of merits. |

October 2000: Doctor of Letters Award Yangon University confers Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on Rector Sayadaw of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Silanandabhivamsa and Alinka Kyawswa Maha Saddhamma Jotika Sayagyi U Thukha. Bhaddanta Silanandabhivamsa received it in absentia. Since its Foundation in 1920, the Yangon University had offerred Honorary Doctorate Awards (D. Litt) to three other outstanding personalities; Ledi Sayadaw in 1921, Sasanapaing Sayadaw U Visuddha in 1932 and Sayagyi U Lin in 1953. |

2000: Theravara Buddhist Missionary Course 11 opens A ceremony to open Theravara Buddhist Missionary Course No. 11 for monks was held at Mogok Soonsarsaung of the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) on Kaba Aye Pagoda Hill today. A total of 69 monks are attending the two-week course. |

Sayadaw U Pandita will be conducting a 9-days Meditation Retreat in June-July this year in the UK as part of his European Tour. Closing date for enrolling is 31st May 2000. |

4th February, 2000: Dhammacariya and Pathamabyan titles Dhammacariya and Pathamabyan title conferring ceremony will be held at Maha Atulawaiyan (Atumashi) Kyaungdawgyi in Mandalay, Myanmar on 6 February. 187 members of the Sangha passed Dhammacariya Examination last year and16 passed Pathamabyan Examination. Certificates will also be presented to 16 who stood first in Five Nikaya Pali Examination and nine who stood first, second, and third in Abhidhamma and Vithuddhimag Examination. |
29th January, 2000: 52nd Tipitakadhara Selection Examination Bhaddanta Silakkhandha bhivamsa and Bhaddanta Vamsapalalankara passed the oral and written examinations of the 52nd Tipitakadhara Selection Examination of Year 2000 ( 1361 ME) and were awarded Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida title. |

14th December, 1999: All Shwekyin Nikaya Ganas The 15th Sangha Meeting of All Shwekyin Nikaya Ganas was held at Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Nyaungshwe, Shan State, this morning. State Ovadacariya Chairman of Shwekyin Nikaya Dhipati' Maha Nayaka Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika, the 13th Shwekyin Sasanabaing Sayadaw of Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Vimalabhivamsapresided over the meeting. State Ovadacariya Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Joint Shwekyin Sasanabaing, Sagaing Pahtama Gandhayon Sayadaw Bhaddanta Supanindabhivamsa acted as Joint Chairman and member of Mandalay Visuddhayon Ganavacaka Committee Agga Maha Gandhavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Odatasiribhivamsa as master of ceremonies. The Sayadaw said since from the First Shwekyin Nikaya Gana Sayadaw, the Shwekyin Nikaya Gana is developing gradually in accord with the teachings of the Buddha. This is due to the strict observance of the rules and the Ovada given by the elder Sayadaws. He urged all the members of the Shwekyin Nikaya Gana to strictly follow the guidance given by the Sasanabaing Sayadaws and to strive for purification, promotion and propagation of the Sasana. 12th November, 1999 The first ceremony for conferring the Diploma in Buddha Dhamma (Dip.B.Dh) by International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University of the Ministry of Religious Affairs was held in Maha Pasana Cave, Kaba Aye, Yangon. At the commencement of this University, forty-three students from foreign countries and fifty-two students in Myanmar-altogether ninety-five students attended the classes of Buddha Dhamma Diploma course. Eighty seven students could cover the Diploma Course. |

16th April, 1999 'Myit Tha' Sayadaw Venerable U Vasava came to London today from Yangon, accompanied by Venerable U Weiponla, Nun Susanta and Nun Ma Indavati. He is on a three-month 6-Nations Dhamma Mission, conducting Meditation Retreats in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and USA. Venerable U Vasava is the Senior Mahasi Nayaka and the President Meditation Teacher at the Mahasi Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar. |
6th April, 1999 Shwehtidaw Hoisting ceremony at the Shwedagon Pagoda: The seventh and final tier of the Shwehtidaw were hoisted atop the famous shrine today, the third and final day of the ceremony which was attended by thousands of worshippers. The Shwetidaw (Umbrella of the Pagoda) is adorned with a 76-carat diamond, surrounded by 4,000 small diamonds and about 1000 other precious stones. It was reported that 111 kilogrammes of gold and about 68,000 items of jewellery were donated by the people of this mainly Buddhist Country, Myanmar (Burma). |
4th April, 1999 Bhaddanta Sirinda Bhivamsa, the Vice-Chairman of the State Sanghmaha Nayaka, Aggamahapandita, Sakyasiha, Zetiyingama, Government Dhammasariya, Chief Abbot of Masoeyein Tike-Thit, Mandalay, is in London now, accompanied by Venerable U Pannadipa Bhivamsa of the Tathagata Meditation Centre, Sanjose, California, USA. Sayadaw Sirinda Bhivamsa delivered a sermon yesterday at the Tisarana Vihara. They will be leaving UK tomorrow for the States and go back to Myanmar (Burma) on 18-04-99. |

15th January, 1999 The Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw, the Abbot of the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon, is in South Africa on his Dhammaduta Tour. Sayadaw has been honoured recently when he was awarded the Title of Agga Maha Saddhama Jotikadhaja. After returning to Burma, Sayadaw will be visiting the countries in the Far East again in April/ May. |
4th January, 1999 Sayadaw U Pannadipa , the Abbot at the Billinge Mahasi Meditation Centre has been awarded the coveted title of Aggamaha Saddhamajotikadhaja by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Myanmar (Burma). Sayadaw U Kumara , Mahasi Nayaka, of London Vihara, Wembly, has also received the Title of Maha Kammathanacariya. Sayadaw is in Burma at the moment and is expected to be back in London in May. |

9th December, 1998 The opening ceremony of the new International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University took place on 9th December at Kaba Aye in Yangon, Myanmar. Over 2500 monks attended the ceremony. The new university had more than 200 applications from 17 different countries. Only 54 foreign students have been accepted this year.
