CACOEU will hold their Annual General Meeting on Saturday 23rd May 2009 from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Goldsmiths College, Lewisham Way, SE14 6NW, in the Main Building. The day will be divided into two sessions. During the morning, the audience will be split into two 'camps' who will both read and analyse references to 'education' in George Lamming's "In the Castle of my Skin" first published in 1953 and "A House for Mr Biswas" by V.J. Naipaul which was first published in 1961. Both books are fictionalised autobiographies. Mr Lamming is of African descent, born in Barbados and very proud of his island, whilst Naipaul is East Indian and not proud of his birth country, Trinidad. There will be a film in the second half of the programme, "Nubian Spirit: The African Legacy of the Nile Valley" by Louis Buckley. The film is on loan from one of our Members who recently visited Egypt. The afternoon will end with the AGM. The Seminar is open to all. The Chair About
us CACOEU
was created to further develop the link between Goldsmiths College,
through PACE (Professional and Community Education) at Goldsmiths and the
Caribbean Centre at Amsterdam University and ASCC (Afro-Surinam Cultural
Centre) in the Netherlands. The
general aims and objectives of CACOEU are to promote knowledge of the
Caribbean and its diaspora, particularly in Europe, through the following
means: Educational Institutions (all levels) cultural exchanges (arts and
media) and a small scale publication. CACOEU
also seeks to provide a forum for academic and lay members of the
community to share experiences for better understanding of events which
affect us. Membership
is open to anyone who share the aims and objectives of CACOEU and its
mission to reflect the diversity of the Caribbean people. The
Secretary Ms Lee Sanowar McKee (For further
