Grampian and Cairngorm is an area of outstanding natural beauty that has international scientific importance. This fact has been reinforced by the Scottish Executive who have designated a large part of our area as a National Park.  It goes without saying that we need to protect both the Cairngorms National Park and the Scottish countryside as a whole for the benefit of  future generations. We ask that all visitors  adhere to the following guidelines;

· With the Cairngorms coming under intense scrutiny regarding the effect on the environment of human and animal activity, it is essential that camping in particular does not impact seriously upon it. To this end we recommend that pressure points such as the Derry Lodge area or the Corrour Bothy are avoided.

· Groups should employ the highest standards of campcraft and leave no trace of their presence. ALL – repeat ALL packaging, cans, food waste etc. must be carried out and should not be either burnt or buried. Human waste should be buried in a hole several inches deep and biodegradable toilet paper used. In areas where toilet facilities are available please use them even if it means a short walk.

· To ensure the continued good relationship the local Award  leaders have established with land owners we urge all groups to notify estates of their proposed venture irrespective of the route chosen. Although permission to camp is no longer required we would expect that estates are contacted for advice as part of any pre venture risk assessment .
