Although the hill areas of the region are internationally renowned the NE of Scotland has many other attractions equally appealing to visitors. A prime example is impressive and rugged coastline shaped by the often tempestuous North Sea. Few stretches of coast have so much to offer, with everything from steep rugged cliffs, to miles of sandy dune beach that offers perfect habitats for a multitude of different birds, plants and sea life. If it’s human geography you are interested in then you can visit small attractive harbours and villages such as Pennen or Stonehaven or investigate the prosperous city of Aberdeen – Europe’s Oil capital. |
