Director

Christopher Larley

Christopher Larley read music at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. After a year spent as Lay Clerk of Llandaff Cathedral, combined with teaching at the Choir School, he moved to Chichester.

From 1996 to 2004 he was a Tenor Lay Vicar of Chichester Cathedral, but from January 2005 he has been Director of Music at St. Paul's Church, Chichester.

Christopher now combines percussion teaching at Prebendal School, Bishop Luffa, Lavant House and St. Margaret's, Midhurst with solo singing, composing and directing various choirs.

He conducts Chantry Quire and has recently undertaken a role conducting one of the West Sussex County Council Choirs for the new Chorus project for young voices, the Central Singers.

Recent and forthcoming solo engagements include Lloyd Webber's The Saviour in Sussex, Mozart's Requiem in London and Britten's St. Nicholas as part of the Chichester Festivities.

Christopher is a keen composer, and has written many pieces for choral and instrumental ensembles. His music is published by Chichester Music Press.

Rehearsal Accompanist

Tony Hancock

Anthony Hancock was born in Sussex some years ago, and began playing the piano at the approximate age of three and the organ at twelve, studying with the Parish organist in Haywards Heath where he also sang in the choir. A year later an audition with Barry Rose at Guildford Cathedral led to the advice to keep organ playing as a delightful - and indeed remunerative - hobby! Undeterred, he continued organ lessons with Gavin Brown at St. Peter’s Parish Church, Brighton and became an assistant organist at St.Wilfrid’s Haywards Heath and at St.Andrew’s Church in Burgess Hill. During student days at London University, the organ gave way just a little in favour of jazz piano in a revue group, but swiftly returned alongside professional life as a dental surgeon. A progressive spinal condition put a premature end to dental practice in 1991, so Anthony again took up organ lessons two years later with Mark Wardell at Christ’s Hospital School Horsham (Mark is now Assistant Organist at Chichester Cathedral) and in 1994 became an Associate of the Royal College of Organists. He is currently organist and choirmaster at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Pulborough, with four members of his large family in the choir!
