Populated by less than 2 million people, this new European Union member (2004) bordered by  Austria, Croatia, Hungary & Italy is a pocket sized country, everything within easy reach.

It has grand mountains to the north, "The Julian Alps" which reach a respectable 2864m. Then there is its small coastline on the Adriatic with its  Venetian style town "Piran" well worth a visit. There is a Hungarian influence to the East, then there are the World famous Caves, found in the Classical Karst in the centre, one of which being a World Heritage Site.
