Manifestofor cleaning up the charity collection sceneFollowing the unanimous Motion passed by the London Assembly on 1st November 2000 setting out a standard for charity collection control, Charity Check aimed to continue spreading similar standards nationwide. The Motion set out a yardstick which Charity Check devised, and welcomed the support already shown for the Charity Check system by licensing authorities and retail managers. Another Motion, in the Scottish Parliament, has pronounced much of the government advice on controlling collections to be ineffective. There have been six Motions in the Commons commending the Charity Check system, and an equivalent procedure in the Welsh Assembly. In each Local Authority area or District, we invite the following among others to encourage high standards, by a suitable local message, as explained below:
Any of the above can show their support – no charge – by sending an email to charity.check@ukonline.co.uk, asking us to list their name on the relevant District page on our new website http://www.charitycollections.org. A simple initial step now is to go to the Downloads section of the new site, and print a poster for the wall of your office, kitchen, library, shop etc. telling everyone who sees it that they can now check instantly online whether many collections they see are in order.
