Exercise 1 : Exploring
This exercise required visiting a number of sites listed, choosing 2 and then making notes under the headings of Summary, Reactions, and Speculations.
| Summary This site is effectively an online museum guide as opposed to a virtual museum Reactions Ease of use Nice Graphical navigation, without too many bells and whistles. Site is geared to Flash enabled browsers. Quantity There is a lot of information available but not much of a comprehensive nature |
|
| Comprehensiveness Includes many facets of the museum but is more of a guide as to what is contained within the museum as opposed to a virtual museum. As such it is objective but not particularly informative, although does express just how much is availabe within the museum. A degree of interactivity is established with the option to email feedback and also an option to download activity leaflets for school vivists amongst other things. Management I did find that a few of the links on the home page were not working and the search engine was experiencing difficulties. Recommendation The site is well worth a visit despite not being fully operational but may prove disappointing to some. It should not be viewed as an online virtual museum, but more as a virual museum guide. Speculations As a an online guide the site is relatively effective but I would have imagined that the future for this type of site will feature fully interactive 3D museum pieces, with a more multimedia aspect. However, surely the whole point of visiting a museum is to get a feel or hands on approach to the artifacts or museum peices |
