Photo Gallery - France
I visited France in 1996 and 1997. Here are some pictures from those trips.
If you'd like to see more pictures from those trips (mainly connected with railways) click here for 1996 or here for 1997

This is a scene from the train on the approach to a delightful town called Le Puy-en-Velay. Le Puy was doubly blessed in 1996, because a few weeks after the Basingstoke and District Railway Society visited, so did the Tour de France. On top of the hill is a huge statue of the Madonna and Child. There's a lot of that sort of thing in and around Le Puy. I apologise for the telegraph wire across the picture. I liked the wall - it reminds me of a giraffe's neck. (May 1996) |
| The well-tended memorial in Le Puy to members of the local resistance who were either killed in action or deported during the second world war. (May 1996) |

This is one of several bridges over the River Rhône in the centre of Lyon. This picture was taken without the aid of a tripod (but I did rest my arms on a wall!) (May 1996) |
| Is it only my sense of humour, or does it strike you as odd that the head office of the Credit Lyonnais Bank bears more than a passing resemblance to a huge sausage - Sausage Lyonnais, anyone? (May 1996) | ![]() |

From a cable car half way up Mont Blanc, a lot of what you can see is snow and sky. I suppose that's why Mont Blanc is so called... (May 1997) |
| This sign was spotted in Chamonix-Mont Blanc. I think the message is that you're a bit daft to want to walk anywhere... Mind you, I could be wrong about that! (May 1997) |
