Photo Gallery - Railways 1

As you may see from other pages at my site, I'm really quite interested in railways. Here are some pictures which don't qualify for inclusion on other railway pages.

The unique preserved Class 71 electric locomotive E5001 stands at Brighton on 20 April 1996, while working a railtour. The special train enabled it to be transferred from the National Railway Museum at York to its new home at St. Leonards. E5001 headed the train from Basingstoke to Hastings, and to avoid having to change ends at Brighton, the train was reversed at Preston Park, whence it was hauled into Brighton by a class 09 shunting locomotive.
Here's the trailing power car of a Train à Grande Vitesse at Avignon on 4 May 1996. This one is on a service from Marseille to Lyon.

A nice bit of decoration for the entrance to Derby station. (It's a pity that people have been using it as a hook to tie the flag to.) This is the coat-of-arms of the former Midland Railway. Derby has had a long association with the railways, though like much of the railway network, what is there now is just a dim reflection of what it once was.
Here's a night shot at London Waterloo on 28 December 1996. This is class 455 electric multiple-unit train 5715. It's the orange stripe which made me take this - a sign of Stagecoach, who operate the franchise for South West Trains. Be that as it may, you might like to note that this was hand held. Most of the time, hand-held shots are blurred at night. This one isn't.
This is former Great Western Railway 0-6-0 Pannier Tank locomotive no. 7752, at the Tyseley Open Day held on 4 Oct 1987. It's in steam because it was running up and down the yard with a few coaches to give people short rides.
