What is 'acv'? How can I use it?

If you are reading this page on a PC or similar device, you can use acv as a quick way to copy a Community Support page.
Have a look at the bottom right of this page. You will see links to 'acv' and 'about acv' (this page). On this page these are dummy links, but where they appear on other pages, acv links to an acv version of that page.
Why do we call this method 'acv'? Because it's an easy way to remember the keys you need to use in order to quickly select, copy and paste the page to a new location.
Advice for beginners on keyboard shortcuts
If you plan to use PCs a great deal, it may be worth learning a few keyboard shortcuts. Many people find that for commonly used tasks this method proves much quicker than using the mouse.
Most users of this page will have a toolbar near the top of their screen. In Internet Explorer there is a menu item called View. Look carefully and you will see that the V is underlined - View.
The underlined letter gives a clue to the keyboard shortcut which can used to select that option.
So, if you hold down the ALT key and press V, this will select View - just as if you had clicked on it with a mouse. This action is written down as ALT+V (the + means that both keys are depressed at the same time).
To change Text size (note that the x is underlined) - press X. If you now press A you will get smallest text size.
Actions that follow each other are separated with a /. So the complete action above can be written ALT+V/X/A.
Using keyboard shortcuts to make copies
(1) Select all, using the control key and A simultaneously: CTRL+A.
(2) Copy text to clipboard, using CTRL+C.
(3) Open a file in which to place the text. This could be a new file using your preferred word processing software, or a new email message, or whatever you like.
(4) Paste text onto page, using CTRL+V.
(5) When you have finished using the acv page, use Back on your browser to return to the original.
For Apple Mac users:
Using keyboard shortcuts to make copies
(1) Select all, using the command key and A simultaneously: CMND+A.
(2) Copy text to clipboard, using CMND+C.
(3) Open a file in which to place the text. This could be a new file using your preferred word processing software, or a new email message, or whatever you like.
(4) Paste text onto page, using CMND+V.
(5) When you have finished using the acv page, use Back on your browser to return to the original.
Quick printing
The acv page is also printer-friendly, and saves paper, compared to printing from the standard page which has a navigation column and side column to left and right of the content area.
A super quick way to print in Internet Explorer is to:
(1) Adjust text size if necessary, by using ALT+V/X...
(2) Print by hitting CTRL+P then OK.
Using Save As in Internet Explorer to make copies of acv pages
(1) Click File/Save As.
(2) Save as text file.
(3) Re-open file using your preferred software.
Tip...
If you wish to keep these notes on the screen while you make a copy of the page, use CTRL+N to make a new window. You can then minimise one or both windows.
